Re: Skype for Business Mac additional features Don't ever expect that to happen, Microsoft has clearly announced that Teams is the future. The Teams client on Mac and Windows are identical and both fantastic.

I see multiple instances of chats with the same contact. This is really cluttering up my Skype for Business app window in both my mobile iOS and my desktop app.
Example: Chat session with Joe at 10:00 for 10 minutes Chat session with Joe again at 14:00 for 15 minutes Now I see two separate chat streams with the same contact. Why isn't this singular? If I have a chat session with Joe and i do not actively remove/delete that chat session, shouldn't it just continue the next time one of us write? Is this by design?
Do I need to adjust something in Skype for Business Admin on 365? I am using latest builds. IOS Version 6.11.1.310 and Mac OSX 16.2.156 Please help, this is sure to cause complaints amongst staff and I expect will introduce user acceptance numbers to drop.
Especially if this is to be compard to WhatsApp, or any attempt to replace WhatsApp. Any updates on the ETA of the 1:1 chats instead of session based chats? Our company has decided to abandon S4B for the moment and look at other IM options as this is an absolute deal-breaker (not to mention the other stability issues we've seen with S4B).
We're constantly having to log back in and end up missing chat attempts if the software hasn't actively been used for a while (like a timeout of some sort). I wish we could simply create a 'pro' version of the consumer Skype instead of these failed attempts to make Lync work. I have a few questions for those who are experiencing problem with what I'll call 'split conversations.' If you can help me, I would appreciate it. Which version of the app are you using?
This thread started in January, but we made significant improvements to split conversations in the April release (16.6). If you are using an older version of the app, updating could fix this problem. If you are still seeing the problem:.
How frequently does it happen?. Have you noticed a pattern when it happens? Are there steps that reliably cause this to happen?
If so, please describe in detail. Does a conversation get split when there are messages sent close to each other (within a minute or two) or over longer periods of time (10 minutes)?. Does this tend to happen with specific contacts or in general? When it happens, are the people you are IMing with also on Mac or Windows or mobile apps?
Thanks, Phil Garding (Microsoft). Phil, I started using S4B 2 days ago as a first time user, I installed the latest version 16.8.196 on a Mac (macOS Sierra). I have been chatting with a colleague for one working day and that single conversation has split 6 times over the day.
I had no idea what was going on at first, I couldn't understand why the counterparty kept appearing as a duplicate contact and I had no idea which contact to type the message into, it was incredibly frustrating and really confusing as a first time user of the product. At the end of the day I Googled the problem and I ended up here. How this odd behaviour got past Microsoft QA is beyond me. Anyway, in an effort to be constructive and get the problem resoved some answers to your questions: 1. Frequency, over the course of roughly 8 hours a signle chat conversation has split 6 times. Pattern, no obvious pattern, although one time the counterparty switched from using skype on a Phone to Desktop, the other time they took a Skype phone call. Timing, I cannot answer this question, I've only just realised what's going on. I have only used the app to chat with one contact.
The counterparty was using skype on a phone (Android) and desktop PC (Windows 10). I hope this helps you fix the problem. Hi Phil, I'm running S4B version 16.8.196 on OSX 10.12.6 and seeing the exact same issues as those described throughout the thread since I installed S4B a few months ago. There is absolutley no pattern on why or when the chat splits off. It can happen while actively typing back and forth, after a few minutes of being idle, or not at all.
For example, I was IM'ing a co-worker this morning for about 3 hours (on and off) and the chat split 5 times. I was looking back at my chat history and when I was talking to him last week, our chat never split over the course of a couple days.
The same thing happens with just about every other contact. However, I'd say at least 90% of the time, the chat splits multiple times a day. This mainly happens with Windows users that are either using Lync or S4B. I haven't seen it happen with other OSX users, but that's mainly because the vast majority of our employees use Windows.
Hi Phil, My employees on Mac are exerincing this issue, I had the following feedback based on your questions. Version - 16.10.97. Frequency - Often, most of my convos have split like that. Pattern - When receiving a new message it will have split before viewing the message.
Time isn’t a factor as it has split when a message was sent the following day (message sent late on day 1, splits when message sent on day 2) and also messages sent close together. Happens to all contacts Hope this helps, is starting to get very annoying. Hi, Abraham: In this case, did your collegue close the window and open a new window in order to send you the other question? If so, this is the key scenario that causes the split. When his question arrives, it comes in as a new conversation (with a new conversation ID) and the app treats it as new and opens the new window.
If your colleague didn't open a new window, I would like to understand what is happening better. If this is the case, could you send feedback so we can look at your logs?
Thanks, Phil. Hi Phil and thanks for the reply. I don't know if he opened or closed a window, but I can ask. I do not use conversations in separate windows.
I got a 'boble' telling me there is a new chat messaged, I clicked it to reply and got confused as the conversation was split this way. Until I replied, both chats were marked with the same time: 15:18 (of course now they only show 'Friday'). See the attached.
Can you mail me an instruction of how to send a feedback? I have gathered logs, but do not wish to make them public. Regards, Abraham Olsen.
Hello, Loren: We are working right now to fix the split conversation problem. We are working to ship this in a client update before the end of 2017. We are absolutely committed to continue supporting Skype for Business customers through client and server updates for the foreseeable future. Of course, we will encourage customers to move to Teams as they are able, but we recognize that many of our customers, especially on-premises customers, will not be able to make that move for years. So Skype for Business is a long-term commitment for us. Phil Garding.
